Connecticut Representative Jim Himes compared Donald Trump to a “single-cell organism” during a recent podcast interview. The leading Democrat was discussing the former U.S. president’s approach to providing assistance to Ukraine when he made that comment.
Himes Claims Ukraine Makes Trump ‘Feel Bad’, Reminds Him Of Impeachment
During the One Decision Podcast episode, Himes stated that Trump “responds to one stimulus and one stimulus only.” He prefaced that by claiming Trump was “a little bit of a single-celled organism.”
Himes added that the question on Trump’s mind is, “Does this make me feel good or does this make me feel bad?” He further explained that Ukraine “makes him feel bad” since “he got impeached over Ukraine.”
Himes Claims Colleagues Will Put Their Careers At Risk By Standing Up To Trump
Himes stated that “an awful lot” of his colleagues realize that they would “put their own careers at risk” by standing up to Trump to say things that differ from what the “cult leader is saying.”
Himes also claimed that the “single-celled organism” says “Ukraine bad.” His acolytes then allegedly say, “The boss thinks it’s bad.”
Himes Claims Republicans Told Him It Was ‘Absolutely Essential’ To Get Aid Done
Himes referenced a congressional mechanism in which Speaker Mike Johnson could possibly be bypassed, which would allow the aid to advance to the House floor. Himes claimed that “Republican after Republican” made it clear to him that it was “absolutely essential” to get the aid done.
However, he later stated that they are “not going to take a risk on behalf of Ukraine.”
Trump’s First Impeachment Arose From Attempts To Blackmail Ukraine
Trump’s first impeachment was the result of his attempts to reportedly blackmail Ukraine. He withheld the military supplies that were necessary to protect the country from Russian aggression.
At the same time, though, the former U.S. president was demanding that they give him dirt on his political rivals – including the current U.S. President, Joe Biden. Trump was later acquitted by the Republican representatives within the Senate.
Trump’s Second Impeachment Arose From January 2021 Attack On Congress
Donald Trump’s second round of impeachment concerns sprouted after the historic attack on Congress on January 6, 2021. Trump was impeached and then later acquitted for his alleged role of inciting that deadly attack.
Most of the senators voted to convict Donald Trump. However, the vote failed to achieve the super majority threshold required to proceed with the conviction.
Trump Referred To Impeachment As ‘The Greatest Witch Hunt’ In U.S. History
After his second impeachment trial ended with an acquittal, Donald Trump issued a statement in which he referred to the experience as the “greatest witch hunt in the history of our country.” Trump further explained that “no president has ever gone through anything like it.”
He added that the process only continued because his opponents “cannot forget the almost 75 million people” that voted for him a few months prior to the trial.

Trump’s statement also referenced the “Make America Great Again (MAGA)” platform on which he built the run to his first term as U.S. President. Trump referred to it in his statement as a “historic, patriotic, and beautiful movement.”
He also added that the movement had “only just begun.” He noted that he looked forward to “continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people.”
Senator Bill Cassidy Said He ‘Voted To Convict’ Trump Because ‘He Is Guilty’
Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana was one of the Republican senators that voted Trump guilty regarding the charge of “incitement of insurrection.” After the vote, Cassidy issued a statement of his own that made it clear he “voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty.”
Cassidy also added that “our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person.” Cassidy was joined in his vote by six other Republican senators – including Mitt Romney (Utah), Susan Collins (Maine) and Richard Burr (North Carolina).
Mitt Romney Claimed That Trump ‘Violated His Oath Of Office’ In Attack On Congress
Senator Mitt Romney made headlines by being the only Republican senator to vote to convict Donald Trump in both of his impeachment trials. Romney issued a statement in which he said that Trump “attempted to corrupt the election by pressuring the secretary of state of Georgia to falsify the election results in his state.”
Romney added that Trump also was responsible for inciting “the insurrection against Congress” at the time when electoral votes were counted. Romney explained that Trump also “violated his oath of office” by “failing to protect the Capitol, the vice president, and others in the Capitol.”
Himes Implied Trump Is Worse Appeaser Than Neville Chamberlain
Himes explained that Donald Trump is a worse appeaser regarding Russia and Vladimir Putin than Neville Chamberlain was as the 1930s British prime minister regarding Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler.
Himes stated that both Chamberlain and Trump “may be undertaking an act of appeasement.” However, “love him or hate him,” Himes expressed his belief that Chamberlain “thought this through.”
Trump Claimed Biden ‘Is Going To Give’ Ukraine To Vladimir Putin
Donald Trump suggested in February that he would be able to do more to protect Ukraine than President Biden. According to Trump, Biden is apparently “going to give” Ukraine over to Vladimir Putin.
Trump expanded on his thought by stating that Putin will be “given everything he wants, including Ukraine.” He referred to Ukraine as a “gift” multiple times during his response.
Trump Repeatedly Claimed He Could End Ukraine War ‘In One Day’
Donald Trump has repeatedly bragged over the past year that he could end the war in Ukraine in a single day. For instance, at a CNN Town Hall in May, Trump stated, “I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours.”
Trump further explained that his strategy would be to meet with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin respectively.
Zelenskyy Blasted Trump’s ‘One Day’ Claim, Called It ‘Very Dangerous’
Zelenskyy responded to Trump’s comments in January during an interview that aired on a U.K. news program. The Ukrainian president stated that the claim itself of Trump being able to end the country’s war with Russia was “very dangerous.”
He further explained that Trump should make it happen if it was possible to make the war end in one day. Addressing Trump, he said, “If you can stop the war during 24 hours, I think it will be enough to come.”
Zelenskyy Says If Trump’s Idea Doesn’t Work, He’d Do It Anyway
Zelenskyy criticized Trump further with his comments related to the alleged 24-hour plan to end the Ukraine vs Russia war. Making it clear that “no one has heard” the idea yet, Zelenskyy said that it would not really matter if the idea “doesn’t work” for the people of Ukraine.
He added that Trump “will do anything to implement his idea anyway.” In his opinion, that is what “worries” Zelenskyy.
